The Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research (CFER) (www.mi.mun.ca/cfer)
within the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University is
focused on fisheries science and the marine ecosystems of Newfoundland
and Labrador, Canada. CFER seeks to expand its exceptional team of
research scientists and technical personnel that have expertise in
ecosystems and food webs, groundfish population dynamics, quantitative
analysis and stock assessment, early life history studies, fisheries
surveys and freshwater ecology.
*DUTIES**
*The successful applicant is expected to conduct research, develop a
dynamic, grant supported research program that compliments and extends
existing CFER capabilities. As part of their research program the
successful candidate will be expected to supervise graduate students and
PDFs.
Publication of research in peer reviewed journals and liaising with
provincial and federal departments and non-government organizations,
including fish harvesters and processors will be required.
*QUALIFICATIONS**
*The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in fisheries science or a
related discipline, with experience in the North Atlantic or similar
ecosystems. While all outstanding candidates will be considered,
expertise in quantitative ecology and/or population dynamics of
exploited marine species is preferred.
The successful applicant will have a strong publication record for their
career stage. Demonstrated abilities in designing projects, writing
scientific proposals, securing grant funding, implementing research
programs and supervising students are required. The ability and the
willingness to work in a team setting as well as with industry, fish
harvesters and government agencies are also required.
