We are looking for a motivated scientist to work on ecosystem-based research at the Institute of Ocean Sciences in Sidney, British Columbia (Vancouver Island).
We are offering 1 year of funding (renewable for an additional year). This project aims at developing ecosystem indicators of forage species productivity through the validation of various metrics based on fisheries acoustic data. These indicators are developed with the objective of linking food webs and commercial fishstock production. The response of these indicators to environmental stressors will be examined by reconstructing time-series. This project will make use of past, current, and future acoustic data that are collected as part of existing survey programs.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in marine biology, oceanography, or related field and have experience with multivariate data analysis, specifically within an oceanographic context. Experience working with fisheries acoustic data is highly desirable.
Interested candidates should contact Dr. Stéphane Gauthier (Stephane.Gauthier@dfo-mpo.gc.ca) and apply to the NSERC Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories Program:
